I always found it "funny" that, usually, the most racist people start their hatred comments with the infamous "I am not racist, but ......." statement. Like they are trying to both convince you and themselves that what follows is just an observation instead of vicious remark about certain type of people.
This weekend, in one of our outlets, we had a cougar with her toyboy "husband" having a few drinks. This particular woman is already known to a few of our staff members for her outspoken views on nationalities which are not part of United Kingdom. On top of her racist views, she complains about everything. Don't know what her story is, but she is definitely damaged goods out to seek revenge on everyone for her past actions. Either she has been hurt bad in the past by something/someone, or she has done the damage. Whatever the excuse is, her behaviour is completely unacceptable and I am quite unpleasantly shocked that she is still allowed to enter the premises ..... but ..... that is another story altogether.
My shift was going quite well despite it being a busy evening, until I got a call from one of our bar managers inquiring if we had any availability for a "regular" guest (stays once a year every few years, but for her, she is regular). I told my colleague that we did and just to send her to reception where one of my colleagues could assist. The lady came shortly upstairs and asked for me. I was busy dealing with another guest, so I explained the situation to one of the supervisor to give her a room. My colleague went outside and about 45 seconds later came back saying that the lady only wanted to speak to a manager. I was like WTF!!!! Why does this lady need a manager to make a booking and check her in. When I finished with what I was doing, I went outside. As I approached her and greeted her it was like I had just force fed her a shit sandwich. Her face of disgust was out of this world. She started saying if I knew who she was and that I was so rude for not coming out earlier. I apologised and explained I was busy with another guest request to which she responded "Ha, like if you got things to do at night." After another 15 seconds I realised why she wanted to speak to me ..... DISCOUNTED RATE ..... Just to avoid haggling with this woman, I offered her an upgrade to the next category and off she went.
Thinking that was the end of it, a couple hours later she comes back with her husband to reception to complain about a group of people in the bar that were celebrating a birthday. Asking if that was allowed in a 5 star property and how disgraceful it was for us to allow it. The man was doing all the talking and since I was not giving them anything, the woman approached and randomly said that she did not like the attitude of the bar manager as she was not a racist. Hmmmm. What an odd thing to say out of the blue. Anyways, they went back up to their room, but I was intrigued on why she said that, so I called the bar to see what happened. The bar manager explained to me that they were saying racist remarks towards the young group of people that were in the bar and when he confronted them, she said that "these black people don't belong in a 5 star establishment". The bar manager told them off for their comments and an argument started. They refused to pay for their bottle of wine because "those people were bothering them with the noise". As they were being so loud and obnoxious, the bar manager took out the charges, but asked them to leave the bar to which they agreed and went back to their room. The bar manager wrote a complaint to senior management about this lady and her husband to try to get them blacklisted.
To be honest, we should have called the police on them and/or kicked them out of the hotel. Unfortunately, when all of this was happening I was not there, otherwise, I would have taken it further. I only found out because I was curious on the lady's remark.
The next morning, they continued on complaining and from I was told, she refused to speak to all the non-British members of staff and only was kind to one of our Managers who .. yes, you guessed right .. is British. All these things were also passed to senior management ... so come on, put on the strap on dildo and fuck this bitch to hell!
